Municipal Information System for Agriculture Program - Pilot Project in Mauban

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Southern Luzon 4-A is celebrating the 48th anniversary today.

The anniversary will start with the blessing from the multipurpose hall of the Regional Food Safety and Top quality Assurance Center (RFSQAC) at Jamboree Route to be attended by Cavite 1st District Representative Joseph Emilio A. Abaya, Laguna 2nd District Representative Justin Indicate SB. Chipeco and Science & Technology Admin Mario G. Montejo.

DOST Assistant Secretary Robert O. Dizon and Eduardo R. Nicolas III, regional governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Market (PCCI) will grace the event according to Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, DOST 4A regional movie director.

They will unveil the 3rd centennial marker which cites the 300th device of the biogas digester designed and produced by DOST 4-A. The biogas digesters have been established in livestock farms in Southern, North and Central Luzon and Main Philippines.

The regional plan on Low Glycemic Palm Glucose will be launched by Main Science Research Specialist Lydia S. Manguiat.

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) on a municipal information system will be signed by Madrigal and Mauban, Quezon Mayor Fernando Llamas.

Mauban could be the pilot site of a project, in cooperation with the e-learning center of the DOST ICT Office (ICTO-NCC) that will create the municipal electronic information program. It will disseminate farming revisions, disaster-related bulletins and community announcements to farmers, local government officials and residents.

Scholarship for Quezon Province Students

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo distributed yesterday P3.642-million worth of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) Vouchers to residents of this province for them to improve their lives.

The distribution of vouchers to 550 recipients highlighted the inauguration by the President of the Quezonian Livelihood and Learning Center (QLLC) and the graduation of this year's batch of 1,009 student trainees who completed their respective courses in the Center.

The PGMA-TWSP vouchers are for trainings or courses in slaughtering operations, consumer electronics servicing, computer hardware servicing, front office, medical transcription, call center agents, heavy equipment operations, household servicing, food and beverage servicing and shielded metal arc welding.

The President, who was assisted by Quezon Gov. Rafael Nantes, Quezon 2nd District Rep. Proceso Alcala, QLLCI Chairman Conrado Escudero and TESDA Deputy Diretor General Teodoro Gatchalian, handed over the vouchers to Zoraida Amper, superintendent of the Quezon National Agricultural School, in behalf of would-be scholars.

The President was then ushered into the QLLC where she was given a brief tour of the Center's facilities that include the F&B service, Household Service, High Speed Sewing, Computer, Cosmetology and Reflexology rooms.

This was followed by the President's unveiling of a mural depicting Jesus' Multiplication of the Loaves. The mural was designed by painter Vicente Fario on the request of the Daughters of St. Francis whose missionary works with the Center focus on values formation and inspired the artworks.

Through a tie-up with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Provincial Office in Quezon, the Quezon National Agricultural School (QNAS) and the office of Quezon 2nd District Rep. Catholic Church bishop supports Quezon separtion

During a rally held here, organizers pursuing the creation of Quezon del Sur said it will materialize due to the way the campaign is being conducted and with the support of a Catholic Church bishop and several church-based organizations and civic groups.

Former Pitogo, Quezon Mayor Rafael Glinoga said the third district of Quezon could muster 100 percent "yes" votes.

A mayor in the fourth district of Quezon said the area could give 75 percent yes votes in favor of the creation of Quezon del Sur.

Political analysts in the province estimated that in the first district of Quezon, 70 percent yes votes could be achieved. In Lucena City, 80 percent yes votes could be expected, and the 60 percent yes votes from the other towns of the second district of Quezon.

Proponents said it will be their turn to have their own province, to bring the government and its services closer to the people.

Mayors and local officials in the rally unanimously endorsed to President Arroyo former Quezon Rep. Aleta Suarez as interim governor in case Quezon del Sur is created in the plebiscite.
